The story
When the FAA changed the walkaround standard, every one of CAE’s controlled documents had to change with it.
New FAA requirements mandated CAE update all pre-flight walkarounds to meet Industry standards. CAE had neither the qualified personnel nor the required equipment to ramp up for dozens of photo and video shoots and post-production editing.
ABCO was offered the project due to its 25+ years of knowledge and experience with the CAE courseware builds for pre-flight checklists as well as its history of performance and on-time delivery. ABCO readily accepted this project and immediately began working in order to meet the tight schedule.
How the shoots ran
ABCO scheduled the photo and video shoots around CAE’s simulator availability, so training sessions never lost a slot. Each aircraft type got its own shoot day, with the walkaround captured in the order the checklist follows.
Post-production edited every clip to the same length and framing, added the callouts the FAA language requires, and returned proofs within two days of each shoot.
Keeping every revision straight
Every asset went into the same version-controlled library ABCO already keeps for the CAE courseware, so a change to a checklist step updates the print, the video and the archive together. Three controls carried the project:
One master per aircraft
Each type has a single controlled source; print, video and archive are built from it, never edited separately.Named revisions
Every change is logged against the FAA bulletin that required it, so an auditor can trace a page back to its mandate.Proof before press
CAE signs off a proof of every revision before anything prints, ships or goes into the archive.
The outcome
ABCO provided the complete solution and delivered on-time thereby allowing CAE to meet the new FAA mandate in the time required without having to search for and hire additional personnel and purchase new equipment.
